How to cook Sea Cucumber Fish Maw herbal soup that nourishes 'yin' in women?
I blogged about Sea Cucumber Fish Maw soup some time back and that was done using cheap fried Yu Biao and Sea Cucumber from supermarket and I also added minced pork to it. It was delicious BUT not as nutritious as DRIED Sea Cucumber and Fish Maw (Hua Jiao) usually sold in Chinese Medical Hall. With a LOT of help from my family, I finally managed to lay hands on expensive Dried Sea Cucumber and Dried Fish Maw. This recipe is recommended by a TCM Physician.
Sea Cucumber sounds like a divine pill because Google says that it has so many benefits such as curing fatigue, boost female vitality and even male stamina hahaha. Check out ehealthzine online for more benefits. As for Hua Jiao, it is an expensive Chinese food that nourishes 'yin', aids kidney function and boosts stamina.
After soaking the Sea Cucumbers and Hua Jiao, you can keep the excess in a freezer and thaw them when you want to use them in future.
Dried Sea Cucumber are black and hard. You have to soak them for a few days to become like the ones in the picture.
The beige coloured odd shaped ingredient in the middle of the picture is the Hua Jiao. Hua Jiao also has to be soaked for a few days.
Everyone should have a slow cooker. After using it, I realised that not only is it convenient, it also makes soups that are filled with flavours from all the ingredients.
The TCM Physician also mentioned that if you only want to eat the sea cucumber, you can steam it for 15 to 30 minutes until it is soft. Add honey to it for flavour. If your fish maw turns slimy after cooking, it is of good quality.
For you who wants to boost your health, I have included a printable recipe card for your convenience.
The advantage of using a Slow Cooker is that you do not have to watch the fire and worry that the soup becomes too dry. In the 3 hours of cooking, I managed to eat my lunch, tidy up my living room, watch television, eat a piece of cake and mop the floor.
