J65 at Hotel Jen has 4 types of
Daily Themed buffets. I finally feasted on the much anticipated Lobster Rock 'n' Rock buffet especially after watching NOC Food King Youtube video. The Lobster Rock 'n' Roll is available every Wednesday and Thursday evening. Honestly speaking, I have never seen so many lobsters cooked in that many ways in any buffet. If you are an adventurous foodie, you will be in for a feast.
Chilled Lobsters
 |
Chilled Lobsters |
Hotel Jen was formerly known as Traders Hotel. I have been to Traders Hotel buffet many times because of the 1-for-1 offers. The layout of the restaurant was quite similar. The supply of lobsters at the Cold Seafood station was mountainous. The staff also made it a point to replenish all lobsters very quickly unlike certain establishments whereby diners have to hover around the lobsters and "catch" them before they run out.

Lobster Paella
 |
Lobster Paella |
Paella is a Spanish rice dish. The closest Paella to Singaporeans' hearts should be the one served at Marche. I really enjoyed Marche's Paella. J65 Paella tasted like rice flavoured with lobster bisque. The lobsters in this dish were not meant to be eaten because they were very tough and tasteless. The flavours probably had been infused into the rice.
Baked Lobster Thermidor
 |
Thermidor |
Dee Kosh has made fun of the word "Thermidor" on Food King. I too, thought that it was a fancy name used in a buffet but no. Lobster Thermidor is actually a real dish - a French dish consisting of creamy mixture of lobster meat, melted butter and cheese, stuffed in a lobster shell. "Thermidor" is the eleventh month in the French Republican Calendar. It was named by Napoleon after the month it was served to him. J65's Lobster Thermidor has chunks of mushrooms in the lobster shells. I wish that the chunks of mushrooms were chunks of lobster meat instead hee hee. The Lobster Thermidor was delicious.
Lobster Fried Rice
 |
Lobster Fried Rice |
I did not know where the lobster meat went to. They were playing Hide and Seek in the rice. The taste of the rice itself was as delicious as any decent Zi Char stall. Thumbs up for a buffet fried rice.
Slipper Lobsters in Percik sauce
 |
Slipper Lobsters in Percik sauce |
You usually come across many Ayam Percik recipes but Lobster Percik??? The slipper lobsters were cooked in Percik sauce - divine creamy spicy coconut milk sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked and I love Malay spices so this is a tick for me.
Lobsters in Chili Crab sauce
 |
Lobsters in Chili Crab sauce |
The Chili Crab sauce was surprisingly well done. It resembled the original Chili Crab sauce. It was quite enjoyable to eat it with lobsters. Of course, nothing beats the real thing.
Grilled Lobsters

Tandoori Lobsters
 |
Tandoori Lobsters |
Tandoori Chicken is an Indian dish and I love it to bits. Tandoori Lobsters? The lobster meat was very tender but I felt that the Tandoori spices were overwhelming the taste of the lobsters.
Black Pepper Slipper Lobsters

I enjoyed the Black Pepper Slipper Lobsters. The meat was very tender and the black pepper was very fragrant. It was one of the better cooked lobster dish of the night.

Lobster Feast |
Although the lobster feast was very innovative with some delicious winners, I still missed the good old butter grilled lobsters. Colony serves them. Check out my
Colony post. I was very disappointed to find Butter Grilled/Baked Lobsters missing from a lobster buffer. If J65 is reading this now, can you please tell your chef to grill or bake some lobsters with melted butter? The other place that can cook butter lobsters very well is East Ocean Restaurant. I love their Butter Lobsters noodles for S$18.
Other than lobsters, J65 also served many other dishes that were very delicious. The chef put in a lot of effort to ensure that the food was of high quality. I enjoyed all of them.
Japanese Sushi and Salmon Sashimi
 |
Salmon Sashimi |
The sushi looked very pretty and the salmon sashimi was pretty fresh. It served only one kind of sashimi.
Salads
 |
Salads |
Recently, I am on a Salad craze to detox my body. I came across an article saying that eating salads can make your body more alkaline.
Roasted Beef, Ribs and Pork Knuckle
 |
Roasted Beef |
The roasted meat was very delicious. I loved the beef. It was very tender, juicy and had a strong comforting beefy taste. The ribs were gorgeous. I did not try the knuckles and I was not sure why. Maybe I was too full or too lazy to cut it.
Cooked Whole Salmon
 |
Cooked whole salmon |
My eyes lit up and my soul was dancing when I saw this dish! Not many buffets serve this. The other place that serves this is Carousel. Check out my
Carousel post. The salmon was extremely soft. The fats were making me delirious with joy. The butter sauce was divine. I went for many servings until I might be mistaken for a cat in disguise.
Braised Pork ______
 |
Braised Pork |
Oh dear, I could not remember if this was a Trotters dish or a Knuckles dish. I simply have to post this picture because fans of animal fats, the fats was awesome. It was very well braised and the meat, the fats, melted in my mouth. Slurps.
Beef Stew
 |
Beef Stew |
The beef stew was wholesome and awesome - very soft meat with a robust gravy.
Dessert
J65 served a variety of dessert items. By then, I was already too full to try everything. I only tried the Durian Mousse. To go with the dessert, there was a variety of teas for diners and there was a coffee machine to make your own Cappuccinos and Lattes.

Cakes and Chocolate Fondue |
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Are you ready to know how much it cost per person? S$85++ There were discounts up to 25% with some credit cards. For this price, I think it will be lovely to include fresh oysters even though it is a lobster buffet.
